the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona, is on my bucket list for a very long time. Finally I got to visit and hike in this magical area 😍
So, yesterday we have start our hike in the lovely village Elm (977 m /canton Glarus) which is the furthest village in the Beautiful Sernftal. The Glarus alpine landscape is of great geological interest and is an UNESCO natural world heritage site. Elm is above know for the Tschingelhörner (Mountain pic range) and the Martinsloch (Martin’s hole), which twice in a year gather people near the church to watch and photograph the sun shining through the 16 metre hole in the rocks.

we walked direction ”Talstation Tschinglenbahn”, from there you have the choice, or you take the cable car to Tschingel-Alp (1480m) or you walk up through the Tschingel-Schlucht (it takes about 1,5 hours). We walked up, I admit some part of the trail were a bit difficult for me, as I have fear of heights 😅, but the chains to hold on reassured me a little (for those who have vertigo, it might be better to take the cable car ... but with your eyes closed 😆🙈)
Then we continue our route to the Martinsmadhütte SAC (2002 m), we took about 2 hours to walk up, we walked through beautiful flowery fields, past rivers, walked near magnificent waterfalls, climbed a little 😅, at some places there are again chains to hold on, but the path to the hut is very well secured (you just have to stay focused, watch where you are walking, it can be slippery at some places, and maybe avoid taking selfies on these kinds of trails 😜)
after a short break at the refuge and a refreshing drink, we went back down to Tschingel-Alp. From there we took the Cable Car which passes over the Tschingel-Schlucht, to return to Elm.
after this beautiful hike we decided to spend a few more hours in this amazing canton Glarus, we went to the Klöntalersee (about 30min drive from Elm. Only about 10min from the city Glarus) to bathe on this hot summer day and to relax.
This day was a treat for the eyes, body and soul 💚
